Mary Covington is President of Denials Management, Inc., a healthcare advocacy firm specializing in medical and mental health billing, claims and appeals. Mary’s experience in healthcare spans 45 years. She began working in the healthcare industry in 1970 and was employed with two major insurance companies through the 1980’s. Mary started Claims Management, Inc. (CMI) in 1990, and collected hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue for providers such as HCA Hospital Systems, Charter Medical, NME, RHSC, New Medico, Ramsay Healthcare, University of Utah, the Aspen Group, and others. Denials Management, Inc. (DMI) was started in 2002 and initially included development of two revenue enhancing software products named ClaimSaver Pro and Refund Pro that were marketed and sold to healthcare providers interested in denials management as part of their revenue cycle improvement process. Over the years, Mary has testified in numerous courts as an insurance expert witness, has consulted with healthcare providers on fraud and abuse, clinical and administrative denials, contracting, and billing. She is also credited with exposing fraud at the federal level against a major insurance company. She is a member of many administrative healthcare organizations and attends multiple conferences each year as a guest speaker on a myriad of insurance claim topics. Today, the two businesses have converged into Denials Management, Inc. Mary now works primarily with families facing challenging insurance issues related to long-term mental health claims associated with adolescent/young-adult residential and outdoor behavioral health treatment programs. She is a staunch believer that mental health claims be treated the same as medical claims, and is continually fighting to recoup funds for families whose claims have been denied. Her successes are among the most impressive in the field and her strong advocacy for patient’s rights is resounding throughout the industry.
Whitney Duhaime is the Vice President at Denials Management. She graduated from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas with an M.B.A. and a Master’s of Science in Organizational Leadership. She has an extensive background in insurance claims, customer service, and management. She has managed numerous small businesses where she gained skills in process improvement, employee performance management, along with conceptualizing and executing new projects and services. Prior to joining the Denials Management team, Whitney worked as an insurance claims professional at a large national insurance company. Whitney is passionate about our mission, our employees and is constantly looking for ways to improve and expound upon the way we serve our clients.
Michael Barnes, Sr., PHR is the Senior Manager of HR & Business Operations with more than ten years’ experience across several sectors. Michael earned a business degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and holds both SHRM-CP and PHR certifications. Michael is a vocal advocate of the HR’s vital role in a healthy corporate environment, and is active with local and national HR-centric organizations. Michael is a native New Yorker who is committed to Denials Management’s passionate advocacy on behalf of its clients.
Kelly Dees is the Accounting and Operations Analyst at Denials Management. She has a degree in Accounting from Mountain West College and over 10 years of accounting and clerical experience. She is excited to be a part of a team that is committed to making a positive difference in the lives of families and individuals. She was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah and loves outdoor activities and animals of all kinds.
Marie McLaws is the Accounting and Payroll Coordinator at Denials Management. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management and was previously employed by the State of Utah. She was a Supervisor in Income Tax Processing and Miscellaneous Taxes for the Utah State Tax Commission. She has extensive experience in customer service, personnel management, accounting, payroll, and business management. Marie’s personal interests and hobbies include traveling, playing golf and just keeping busy.
Anthony Walker is a Quality Service Supervisor at Denials Management. He graduated from California State University of Long Beach with a degree in Marketing, but has spent his entire career working in the insurance claims business. Anthony is licensed by the State of Utah Department of Insurance as an Accident & Health Public Adjuster. Prior to joining Denials Management, Anthony worked for Travelers Insurance. After moving to Utah, he worked as a health insurance claims processor.
Paul Baird is the Administration Assistant Manager at Denials Management. He truly believes in the work that Denials Management is doing to improve the financial outcomes for the families that the company serves. Paul takes pride in his integral part of the appeals process. Born and raised in Salt Lake City, he is also a writer and artist. He has written six feature-length screenplays and recently finished the first drafts of his first two novels. He also likes turtles.
Trina Knight is an Administrative Correspondence Clerk at Denials Management. She enjoys working hard and learning the ways of the insurance world. She feels that every day there is something new to learn about the ways to assist our clients. Prior to Denials Management, Trina worked in the film industry for sixteen years, assisting with making movies, post production, quality control, and much more. Trina is very dedicated to Denials Management’s mission.
Tiffany Ludlow is the Intake Manager at Denials Management. She came up through the ranks of the company, and spent years working as a Healthcare Advocate. Tiffany graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science. Tiffany held several administrative and customer service positions in college, during which she honed organizational skills which have been key to her success at Denials Management. As a native of Wyoming and Utah, Tiffany is passionate about the outdoors, traveling, reading, and caring for her many pets.
London Riding is an Intake Counselor at Denials Management. London graduated from college with a degree in Medical Administration. Her background comes from working for a health insurance agencies and hospitals. She has been able to interact and assist members and patients with the need for improvement in patient care and coverage. London recognizes the emotional and financial hardships that medical ailments can bring to families and their loved ones. She strives to continually improve the process for much needed coverage in the industry.
Shandi Poulsen is an Intake Counselor here at Denials Management. She is passionate about dancing and expressing herself through music and movement. She is a licensed Phlebotomist and has worked in many levels of health care from Outpatient all the way to the Trauma Unit and ICU. After leaving direct care, Shandi has spent many years working with Medical Billing and insurance claims. Shandi comes to DMI with experience in a variety of different leadership roles and continues to apply those in her daily work. She is born and raised in Utah and loves being a part of a team that shows passion and dedication to the work we do here at DMI.
Erin Kotchik is an Intake Counselor here at Denials Management. She is passionate about advocating for individuals experiencing mental health symptoms. She holds her Bachelor's degree in Psychology with a Minor in Sociology. Erin previously worked for Oregon's largest non-profit behavioral health company by managing several different residential facilities for adults and adolescents. She is originally from Pennsylvania and has lived in several different states throughout the US before residing in Utah. In her spare time, Erin enjoys traveling and experiencing the picturesque landscapes of Utah.
Tazia Hughes is a Intake Counselor at Denials Management. She studied business at two different Utah colleges, and has over 10 years of customer service experience. Prior to joining Denials Management, Tazia and her husband spent four years managing their own sales business in the Midwest and Eastern United States. Tazia’s personal interests include going camping and boating with her husband and large extended family. She is passionate about helping the families she advocates for.
Tanya Shroeder is the Provider Relations Manager at Denials Management. Tanya graduated with a Master of Arts degree in Psychology. Prior to joining Denials Management, she worked in Silicon Valley for 8 years at various high-tech firms. Tanya moved to Utah and began working as a Client Relations Director for a financial company. She worked in Global Treasury as an Associate at Goldman Sachs. In her spare time, Tanya enjoys being outdoors with her husband and two children - biking, hiking, skiing and camping. She likes to read, bake, cook and entertain friends.
Kaitlynn Drollinger is the Provider Relations Analyst at Denials Management. Kaitlynn earned her Associates Degree in Healthcare Administration. She has nine years of experience in insurance, underwriting, medical billing and claims processing. She is thankful she can use her knowledge and experience to help people, and to make a difference. She is excited for the opportunity to be a part of the mission at Denials Management. Kaitlynn is an avid learner, and mother of three boys.
Aubrie Evans is the Billing and Claims Team Manager at Denials Management. She studied Biology and General Academics. Prior to joining the Denials Management team, Aubrie worked in customer service for several large businesses. At Denials Management, Aubrie has quickly worked her way through several positions in the company, and is enjoying her current position as a team manager. She is zealous about making a difference in the mental health insurance industry. During her free time, Aubrie loves being outdoors and spending time with her daughter.
Alex Culpepper is a Team Lead at Denials Management. Before coming to Denials Management, she worked as a Patient Service Representative for doctors and insurance coverage across California. She has worked in multiple departments doing medical billing, follow up and patient payments. Alexandra enjoys and is very impassioned about the work we do here. She strives to make sure that all of our clients are treated fairly and their claims are handled accurately.
Karem Gonzalez is a Team Lead at Denials Management. She loves working on the administrative side of the medical field. She received high honors with her diploma for medical billing and coding. She was born in Ecuador, but grew up in New York. Karem joined Denials Management to be part of a team that is changing the insurance industry for our families and clients that have such special needs. When she isn’t at work, Karem enjoys spending time with her family.
Annette Saxton is a Billing & Claims Specialist here at Denials Management Inc. She was born and raised in Utah where she resides with her two Sons and dog Stella.
Annette holds an Associate Degree in Medical Office Administration and has worked in the Health Care Industry for 25 years with an emphasis in billing and claims follow up for the past 18 years.
After 15 years working with Intermountain Health Care, Annette decided she wanted to use her knowledge, tenacity and passion to work with people on a more personal level. Annette feels she’s found her forever “work home” because of the excitement and honor she feels every day to work with the talented, committed employees and loving, brave families of Denials Management.
Brittani Price is a Billing and Claims Specialist. She has attended school at Rick's College, Mesa College and SDSU. Her major was in early childhood education. She was given the opportunity a few years ago, to learn the ins and outs of medical billing and found she has a passion it. Because of personal experience, Brittani knows first hand, what it is like to have a child in a program and have to meet financial obligations. Brittani is originally from San Diego, CA. She enjoys working for Denial's Management and helping others when they need it most.
Michelle Wiseman is an Insurance Claims Specialist at Denials Management Inc. She has 15 plus years in the insurance industry. Michelle is highly skilled in analyzing and validating patient information, diagnoses, and billing data. Michelle was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. She enjoys watching her 4 children play sports. Michelle enjoys being part of a team that strives to help families and to make a difference in others that are in need.
Chelsea Giles is the Appeals Manager at Denials Management. She is passionate about helping people and making a difference in the lives of others. Chelsea holds a bachelor’s degree in social work. She has worked as an assessment coordinator in the mental health field and as a practice administrator in the private healthcare setting. Chelsea grew up in Idaho and moved to Utah in 2015. She loves working with the dedicated, caring team at Denials Management to be the voice for families and facilities.
Justin Eckman is an Assistant Manager at Denials Management, Inc. He is passionate about fighting insurance claim denials, and in his spare time is passionate about golfing, shooting sports, and international travel. Justin holds a Bachelor’s Degree in International Studies. He has previously worked in the public sector and the environmental conservation sector. He has a great sense of humor and enjoys making people laugh. Justin grew up in Idaho and currently resides in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Stephanie Hairston is an Appeals Coordinator at Denials Management. She has a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Psychology and English from Pomona College and a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from New York University. She has over five years of professional clinical experience in substance abuse and mental health treatment, assessment, and diagnosis, including specialized experience in the intersection of these services with the legal system. She has also worked in hospice and as a technical writer for a medical software company. She is originally from Bristol, Virginia, and was living in Madison, Wisconsin, before moving to Utah. In her time outside of the office, she enjoys creative writing and participates in a local writers’ group. She is also an avid reader who likes supporting independent bookstores and libraries and attending author events. She enjoys working at Denials Management because it allows her to bring together her interests in writing, psychology, and social justice.
Marcus Call is an Appeals Coordinator at Denials Management, Inc. He enjoys reading and writing and helping produce quality appeals. Marcus completed a Bachelor's in English Literature a Master's in Professional Communication. Marcus has also previously worked in the healthcare field for a medical credentialing company in the Salt Lake area. Marcus and his wife are originally from the Seattle area but moved to Utah a few years ago to be closer to family and currently reside in Centerville.
Jeff Kramer is an appeals specialist at Denials Management Inc. He joins DMI with a 6-year background in an intensive technical writing industry. Jeff harbors a fervent passion to utilize his writing expertise and insurance knowledge to deliver justice for families whose insurance companies have wrongfully denied them essential coverage for mental health benefits. In his time outside of the office, Jeff enjoys producing music in his studio, illustrating for his webcomic, writing articles for various magazine publications, and spending time with his wife and Great Dane. Jeff enjoys working for DMI because it allows him to utilize his skills contributing to the fight for equal and fair insurance coverage for the families that need it most.
Candice Eldard is a Healthcare Advocate Manager at Denials Management. She is a responsible, loyal partner who is passionate about providing extraordinary service to the families and clients she manages. With over 16 years of experience, she brings proficient organization, case management and productivity skills. Candice helps solve problems using resourceful thinking while providing prompt, high quality service in a trusted and innovative way. Originally from Washington, Candice has grown to love Utah. She especially loves camping and spending time with her husband and three sons.
Tyson is the Litigation Support Coordinator at Denials Management. He is a graduate of the University of Utah where he earned a B.S. in Political Science. Tyson previously worked for the Affordable Care Act, and helped develop Salt Lake City’s Community Food Assessment. Among other activities, he has volunteered with the Utah AIDS Foundation, Trust for Public Lands, and Utahns Against Hunger. Tyson helped develop the Downtown (SLC) Ambassador program and has been an appointed member of the Salt Lake City Police Civilian Review Board since 2014.
Meghan Herrick is a Healthcare Advocate at Denials Management. She is incredibly motivated and driven to help families in need, especially those with mental health and substance abuse insurance coverage issues. Meghan believes that every person should receive the medical attention they need without having to stress over finances. Meghan was born in Maine, and grew up in Indiana. She now lives in the heart of Salt Lake City, and loves to hike and camp with her two dogs and fiancée.
Lizzy Donnelly is a Healthcare Advocate at Denials Management, Inc. She is passionate about increasing access to mental health and substance abuse treatment. Lizzy has a Bachelor’s of Science in Public Health and an Honors Degree from Westminster College. Lizzy grew up in Salt Lake City, and enjoys watching baseball and listening to podcasts. She loves working with clients at Denials Management, Inc. to ease the stress and confusion of working with insurance companies.
Gregory Allenbach is a Healthcare Advocate at Denials Management. His mission is to hold insurance companies accountable for paying claims, so families are able to provide the best of care for those members in need. He spent many years in the Affordable Housing sector, where he aided low income families to obtain quality housing. Once he learned of the Denials Management mission, Greg knew the company was a perfect fit for his qualifications, experience and goals.
Ashlee Harper is a Utilization Review Manager at Denials Management, Inc. Ashlee has Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Utah and is a Certified Social Worker working to obtain her LCSW license. Ashlee has spent the past six years working with people in drug and alcohol treatment centers and is passionate about helping people find their voice and reach their goals in life. Ashlee was born and raised in Utah and enjoys traveling, camping, and has a love for animals.
Kristina Muck is a Utilization Review Coordinator at Denials Management, Inc. Kristina holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and is currently completing her Masters in Social Work. Kristina has worked with at-risk youth in therapeutic and educational settings. She is passionate about advocating for families and loves fighting for the “little guy.” Kristina grew up in California and now lives in Utah. Kristina works at Denials Management because she believes everyone needs an advocate on their side.
Terri Goldstein is a Utilization Review Coordinator at Denials Management. She joined Denials Management to further her personal passion to help people receive with mental health issues, especially families and their children. Terri is currently in her second year of graduate school to earn a Master of Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Prior to joining our company, Terri had a 27-year career in non-profit management and was a certified fundraising executive (CFRE). Terri is a native Floridian and moved to Utah in 2010.
Sara Remaley is a Utilization Review Coordinator at Denials Management. She graduated from Carlow University in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, with a Master of Science Degree in Counseling Psychology. Sara is currently a dually licensed Mental Health clinician, as well as an Advanced Substance Use Disorder Counselor. Sara has extensive experience with patient care, clinical knowledge, research, training, and utilization review. Together with her husband who is a professional skier, they enjoy skiing, hiking, running, and travel.
Garrie McLaws is the Director of Information Technology at Denials Management. He is a second generation IT Specialist and is passionate about technology and finding ways to help other employees through the use of technology. Garrie holds several current industry certifications, MCP, MCSE, MCSA, MCDBA, but received his first at the age of 17 as a Certified Netware Administrator for Novel Netware 3.5. Garrie is a Utah native and he firmly believes that Denials Management does great work in helping pursue insurance companies to make-good on their promise.
Carrie Sproul is the Accounts Receivable Manager at Denials Management. She has extensive experienced in administrative support, human resources, customer service, and accounting. She was born in North Carolina, and moved to Utah several years ago. Carrie loves being a part of the team at Denials Management and the role she plays in assisting the families in receiving the reimbursement they deserve for their medical and behavioral health services. Carrie enjoys the outdoors.
